I am just putting some thought into it. Can anyone explain the temperament, size and requirements for the following. I want a big snake, but I'm not yet sure how big. Or if anyone has any other detail, maybe if you own one or have it would be helpful. I'm looking at Red tailed boas (colombian or true), rainbow boas, green tree python, or emerald tree boas. Also are there any differences between the python and boa when it comes to temperament?
True RTB's can be nippy as babies and need a little more care than Colombian RTB's.
I suggest getting a male Colombian or Common boa. Males generally stay between 5-7 feet long and are docile if cared for properly. Rainbows are good pets, but need a lot of humidity, making them harder to care for.
All of the aborial, or tree dwelling snakes have longer teeth and have meaner attitudes than their cousins. I would not recommend a GTP, or ETB's for a first time snake keeper.
Join this site, and hang out for awhile and do some more research on these animals before you decide to buy one.
